Parent Leadership Training
Started in 2017, the UCONN People Empowering People (PEP) Communities program in Wethersfield has graduated 51 parent leaders. PEP is a UCONN Extension certificate course and can help parents fill gaps in their resume and transition careers.
Jeanine Berasi, a UConn Certified PEP Facilitator, leads the class.
How does PEP work?
Instruction: PEP parent leaders attend ten weekly two-hour sessions focused on values, communication skills, problem-solving skills, parenting skills, leadership skills, action planning and community opportunity.
Community Service Projects: Groups and individuals then participate in projects that benefit their community for four weeks.
Wethersfield PEP graduates have prepared welcome gifts for new students in the district, organized Porch Portraits during the COVID-19 pandemic to connect community and raise money for Wethersfield Food Bank and curated an exhibit highlighting the many cultural holidays celebrated in town.
Attendance is expected. More than two missed instructional sessions can effect completion of awarding the certificate.
