Flu Clinics – Each Fall, the Health District holds flu vaccination clinics in each of our four towns. Usually there is a morning clinic and an afternoon-early evening clinic. Vaccines are provided for adults and children age 4 and up. Most insurance is accepted. Call the Health District office at 860-785-8380 for information pertaining to the current or upcoming flu season.

Lead Poisoning Prevention – Since January 2009, Connecticut law mandates that medical providers must conduct annual lead screening (i.e., blood lead testing) for each child 9 to 35 months of age, effective January 1, 2009. Once a child has been poisoned, the impairment it may cause is irreversible. Lead harms children’s nervous systems and is associated with reduced IQ, behavioral problems, and learning disabilities. In large doses, it can cause coma, convulsions and death. While lead paint in homes built before 1978 continues to be the most common source of lead exposure, there are other sources of lead that can poison a child or adult. No amount of lead is safe for the body poisoning.

Lead Poisoning Prevention Resources

Central Connecticut Health District works with families whose children have been lead poisoned to identify the source of the lead and reduce the chance of further poisoning. Please contact Luis Pantoja at (860) 785-8380 for further information.

Putting on AIRS (Asthma Indoor Risk Strategies) – Putting on AIRS is an evidenced-based home visitation program focused on identifying and reducing on indoor asthma triggers and providing education about asthma as a chronic illness. AIRS is offered FREE to individuals or families of a child with a diagnosis of moderate or severe asthma in the child or parent living within the home. To learn more about this program, please contact Betty Murphy, Program Coordinator at (860) 665-8571.

Vaccines – Many disabling or deadly early childhood diseases are prevented due to vaccination. The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) advises the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on the best ages for children to receive various vaccines.
