Food Assistance and Free and Reduced Priced School Meals

In 2015, 13% of Wethersfield residents lived at or below the poverty level. There are a variety of resources available for Wethersfield residents coping with food insecurity. These include:

The Food Bank is available Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm by appointment only for Wethersfield residents. Residents are also encouraged to contact Social and Youth Services for guidance on how to connect with food, fuel, and health services including signing up for Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP)

Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women Infants and Children (WIC) provides healthcare referrals, nutrition education, breastfeeding promotion and support, and supplemental foods. A WIC representative comes to the Wethersfield Department of Social and Youth Services the last Monday each month.  For more information about WIC, click HERE.

For families who qualify, reduced price and free breakfasts and lunches are provided. Free or reduced price meals may be applied for at any time during the school year. If you are not eligible now, but experience a change such as a decrease in household income, an increase in household size, become unemployed or get SNAP (formerly food stamps), fill out an application at that time.
